🍂 November Family Activity of the Month:
“Our Family Thankful Tree”
🌳 Theme: Gratitude & God’s Blessings
Bible Verse:
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” – Psalm 107:1
💡 Purpose:
To help families reflect on what they’re thankful for and recognize God’s blessings together. This activity strengthens family relationships and teaches children of all ages about gratitude, creativity, and teamwork.
🧺 Materials:
-
Construction paper (brown for tree trunk, other colors for leaves)
-
Scissors and glue/tape
-
Markers or crayons
-
Optional: Real twigs in a vase for a 3D version
-
For little ones (0–3 years): stickers or washable paint for handprints
✂️ Instructions:
-
Create Your Tree:
-
Draw or cut out a large tree trunk and branches from brown paper and tape it to a wall or fridge.
-
Or, place real twigs in a jar or vase for a 3D “tree.”
-
-
Make Leaves:
-
Cut leaf shapes from colorful paper (orange, yellow, red, green).
-
For infants/toddlers, parents can trace their hands as leaves.
-
-
Write or Draw Blessings:
-
Each family member writes or draws something they are thankful for on a leaf each day (big or small — “Jesus,” “my toys,” “grandma,” “our home”).
-
Older children can help younger ones express or draw theirs.
-
-
Add to the Tree Daily or Weekly:
-
Keep adding leaves all month long until your tree is full!
-
End of the month: read all the leaves together and say a prayer of thanks as a family.
-
🌟 Extensions:
-
Family Night Idea: Host a “Thankful Tree Celebration” dinner at the end of the month where everyone shares one leaf out loud.
-
Send in your photos: Families can send a photo of their tree to display on David’s Kingdom Academy social media page.
-
Baby-Friendly Twist: For babies, use handprint leaves with their name and a short note of thanks written by the parent.
